President, Chief Executive Officer and Trustee
James W. Beckerleg is President and Chief Executive Officer of PROREIT, which he co-founded in 2013 with Gordon Lawlor. He is also a Trustee.
Prior to founding PROREIT, Mr. Beckerleg was president and CEO of CANMARC Real Estate Investment Trust, a publicly-traded REIT with a diversified national portfolio of commercial properties. He also served as a consulting executive for a large, private international real estate investment and management company. Mr. Beckerleg has decades of executive leadership experience in real estate, corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, and has served as an executive and director of several publicly-traded companies, including in the real estate sector.
Mr. Beckerleg has a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from McGill University (Montreal, Quebec) and an MBA from Concordia University (Montreal, Quebec).
Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Secretary
Gordon G. Lawlor is Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Secretary of PROREIT, which he co-founded in 2013 with James W. Beckerleg.
Prior to founding PROREIT, Mr. Lawlor was executive vice president, chief financial officer and secretary of CANMARC Real Estate Investment Trust, a publicly-traded REIT with a diversified national portfolio of commercial properties. From 2005 to 2010, he held senior management positions, including as executive for a large, private international real estate investment and management company. Mr. Lawlor also spent nearly a decade at Emera Inc., a publicly-traded utility company where he served in a number of senior management positions, including as director of finance.
Mr. Lawlor has a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Saint Mary’s University (Halifax, Nova Scotia) and received his Chartered Accountant designation in 1994.
Managing Director, Operations
Mark O’Brien is Managing Director, responsible for PROREIT’s operations since 2013.
Prior to joining PROREIT, Mr. O’Brien was director of acquisitions for First Capital Realty, where he executed the company’s strategy in the Quebec and Atlantic Canada markets.
From 2010 to 2012, as senior manager of acquisitions with CANMARC, he was responsible for the sourcing, underwriting and closing of 43 post-IPO acquisitions with a combined asset value of $650 million. Previous roles include vice president at TD Securities and commercial mortgage-backed securities underwriter with Merrill Lynch Canada.
Mr. O’Brien has a Bachelor of Arts from Mount Allison University (Sackville, New Brunswick) and obtained his OACIQ and OREA real estate licensing in 1996 and 1998, respectively.
Alison Schafer is PROREIT’s Director of Finance since she joined the company in 2013.
Prior to PROREIT, Ms. Schafer was accounting director at Cominar REIT, overseeing the accounting function for the REIT’s entire portfolio, representing about $5.5 billion in investment properties. Prior to that, she was controller for Quebec operations. Prior to her time at Cominar, Ms. Schafer worked at CANMARC Real Estate Investment Trust, a publicly-traded REIT with a diversified national portfolio of commercial properties, after spending over a decade at Richter, a prominent Montreal-based accounting firm.
Ms. Schafer has a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Education from McGill University (Montreal, Quebec) and received her Chartered Accountant designation in 2003.
President, Compass Commercial Realty LP
Chris Andrea is President of Compass Commercial Realty LP, a property management firm acquired by PROREIT in 2018. Mr. Andrea is responsible for all of Compass’s real estate functions including leasing, brokerage and property management.
Mr. Andrea has more than 25 years of experience in the real estate industry. Prior to being promoted to the position of president, he was vice president and general manager. Prior to joining Compass, he served as general manager of Oxford Atlantic, and property manager with Fencorp Properties.
Mr. Andrea has a Bachelor of Commerce from Saint Mary’s University (Halifax, Nova Scotia).
